First Day - exploring our journeys

The group all met for the first time today, we spent quite a bit of time getting to know each other with a few games. We then did some interviews in pairs to try and get to know another person a bit better. We talked about our journeys to school and what we enjoy about them, and what we don't like so much, we also thought a bit about what we saw on our journeys.

After that we began a 'journey journal', a sketchbook of ideas to help us throughout the week with the other activities we are going to do, this is something we are going to revisit throughout the week and hopefully think a bit about at home.

We also spent some time documenting each others journeys, describing to a partner what we saw, heard and felt on the way.

Taunton Academy Art summer camp

From Monday 9th to Friday 13th August a small group of students are coming together to think about their journeys to and from school as well as their impressions of school itself.
These pupils will be made up of a few students already attending the school and pupils who will be attending the new school in September. The idea is to introduce them to their new surroundings and get to know some people already there, as well as thinking about their own potential impact in the school. Of course all of this will happen through creative techniques will be drawing, painting, printing, model making and making our own sketchbooks.
The project will be led by professional artist Julie Roberts (www.julieroberts.co.uk) and assisted by Alice Jones (www.alice-jones.co.uk) recent graduate. This is all co-ordinated by Somerset Art Works and funded by the 'give it a go' programme via Somerset County Council.
Check back here for any progress.
